Tide Brings Telecom Into Business Banking
Tide launched Tide Business Phone Number and a mobile plan for SMEs, powered by Gigs on Vodafone UK’s network. The move brings telecom directly into business banking, giving small businesses a way to separate work and personal communication from within their financial platform.
For fintechs, mobile plans are not just an additional revenue line. They add a core everyday utility beyond banking, increase customer engagement through a high-frequency service, and create more first-party usage data that can support better personalisation over time.
Tide is part of a wider shift already underway across fintech. N26 launched N26 SIM in Germany in May 2025 and later added travel eSIMs across more than 100 countries. Revolut moved from travel eSIMs in 2024 toward UK mobile plans in late 2025. Nubank launched NuCel in Brazil through Claro, Klarna entered the US mobile market with an unlimited plan embedded in its app, and Monzo is reportedly preparing a UK mobile-plan launch.
Connectivity is emerging as a new subscription category inside fintech apps. Early adoption focused on travel eSIMs and related benefits, but the market is now moving toward full mobile plans embedded directly into financial platforms. For fintechs, the value is clear: recurring revenue, higher app engagement, and a stronger role in customers’ everyday operating lives.
